The Harry F. Shaw, Jr. Papers were assembled by Shaw while he was an undergraduate at the University of West Virginia. It is comprised primarily of 1960s to early 1970s publications of a political and social activist nature including civil rights, draft resistance, labor movements, miners and mining conditions, race relations, and the Vietnam War. The regional focal point of the collection is in West Virginia, especially the University of West Virginia, but includes materials relating to Southern, national, and international organizations. Additional materials beyond publications include correspondence, memoranda, news clippings, pamphlets, and photographs.

Harry F. Shaw, Jr., was born in Crafton, West Virginia, circa 1947. He graduated from Crafton High School in 1964 and West Virginia University circa 1968; he majored in history.
